The NEEAC will be co-sponsoring the 15th annual New England Conference on Multicultural Education (NECME). The conference, titled "Improving Student Achievement through Multicultural Learning: Engagement and Success for All," will be held at the Hartford Marriott in Farmington, Connecticut.
Improving engagement is now understood as critical for improving student achievement. NECME 2010 will promote an in-depth understanding of how achievement, engagement, and multicultural education are interconnected, as well as provide concrete strategies for educators to successfully engage students of all backgrounds.
Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, Kellner Family Professor of Urban Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and Faculty Affiliate in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Ladson-Billings is the author of numerous critically acclaimed books, including The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children and Crossing Over to Canaan: The Journey of New Teachers in Diverse Classrooms.
Registration for this conference will begin in May. Directions for registering will be available on this website and the NECME website. Registration will be open to both school districts using a purchase order and individuals paying by either check or credit card.
