Sharon Lloyd Clark is the director of the New England Equity Assistance Center at The Education Alliance. She has more than 28 years of experience in urban schools and higher education. Having previously held the position of Executive Director of Providence Public Schools and Assistant Director for the Secondary School Redesign Program at the Education Alliance, Brown University, her responsibilities included extensive work with high school reform issues, especially with urban, low-performing schools.
Ms. Lloyd Clark has over two decades of experience providing equal opportunities for all students within the educational system through extensive reform work. Most recently, she was the Head of The Carroll School (1999–2005) in Massachusetts, which serves students diagnosed with language-based learning disabilities. At Carroll, she facilitated long-range planning goals, including new curriculum initiatives in math and science. Ms. Lloyd Clark served as Dean of Faculty/Associate Head and as Principal of the Concord Academy in Massachusetts from 1994–1999. Under her leadership, the Academy established a technology plan, writing center, and release time program for curriculum development. She also mentored new faculty, particularly faculty of color.
As Director of the Institute of Secondary Education at Brown University (1988–1994), she engaged university faculty in local school reform and served as Principal Investigator for several National Endowment for the Humanities and National Science Foundation grants. She also held the position of Associate Director of Programs for Teachers and led the College Admissions Project for the Coalition of Essential Schools.
Ms. Lloyd Clark has held numerous positions of leadership within schools, instituting significant changes in terms of
curriculum reform and development, faculty hiring, fundraising, and general administration reform. In addition to her
administrative positions, she taught history in schools in New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Ms. Lloyd
Clark received a master's degree in Medieval History from Cornell and completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. except the
dissertation. She earned a B.A. in Classical Languages and History from Muskingum College in Ohio.

Michelle Carreiro is a program coordinator at the New England Equity Assistance
Center. With over eight years of experience at the NEEAC, she is responsible
for planning, organizing, and preparing workshops and conferences; assisting
with federal grant data collection; and preparing reports and proposals.
Ms. Carreiro is currently a senior at Brown University concentrating in Education
Studies, with a focus on cross-cultural and ESL education.

Randy Ross is an equity specialist at the New England Equity Assistance Center. She is responsible for technical assistance, training, and other initiatives in the areas of gender equity and preventing bullying and harassment, including Title IX concerns.
Ms. Ross has taught, trained, or served as an administrator at all levels of schooling—from early childhood to post-graduate. She was an adjunct instructor of early childhood education courses at several colleges in Connecticut. In addition, for nine years, she ran a business that developed and provided software for financial and student management in school districts. For over five years, Ms. Ross worked in the New Jersey Office of Bias Crime and Community Relations, where she provided diversity training for schools, law enforcement, and community organizations. She also served as Coordinator for New Jersey Cares About Bullying, a statewide, state-sponsored campaign.
Ms. Ross has made over 200 presentations to districts and at state and national
conferences and has written numerous articles for magazines, journals, and
newsletters. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Anthropology from the University
of California at Berkeley and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from the
Bank Street College of Education in New York City.

Sara Smith is an equity specialist at the New England Equity Assistance Center. She specializes in topics related to national origin—specifically, second language acquisition and effective classroom practice for teachers of English language learners.
Her 30-year career as an educator has centered on language acquisition in elementary, middle school, adult education, and college classrooms, both in the United States and abroad. As an adjunct lecturer at Brown University, she teaches graduate courses in theories of language acquisition, applied linguistics for ESL, literacy for language minority students, methods of assessment, and curriculum development.
Ms. Smith received a master's degree from Brown in ESL Education and Cross Cultural Studies. She holds Rhode Island teaching certification in the elementary and middle grades and in English as a second language and she is a certified trainer in the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP). Through her work with districts in New England, Ms. Smith helps educators to build understanding of their increasingly diverse school communities, of second language acquisition, and of ways to help English language learners achieve in all content areas.
