How We Work
The New England Equity Assistance Center (NEEAC) works at the request of school boards and responsible governmental agencies in New England (Region I), and we strive to build partnerships with those districts and public schools that request our help. These partnerships are often sustained, in-depth relationships that allow for the collaborative design of equity solutions and promote a comprehensive approach to serving students of diverse backgrounds. Our services are provided without charge to states, schools, and districts in the region.
In addition to working with districts and elementary and secondary public
schools, we also provide assistance to state education agencies and to charter
schools, magnet schools, and other schools of choice. We may also work with
parent or community groups collaborating with these schools and districts.
A top priority is helping districts that have been referred to the Office
of Civil Rights
.
In addition, we partner with state Attorneys' General offices to support
safe schools initiatives.
NEEAC staff members take on a variety of roles in our work with partner schools. We lead professional development activities, advise school improvement teams, consult with school and district administrators developing policies or programs, and conduct school climate assessments.
Our technical assistance supports schools implementing the equity provisions
of No Child Left Behind
. Our professional development activities disseminate sound research and practices
with demonstrated effectiveness. In all our work, we help our partners focus
on NCLB's principles of accountability, flexibility, parental choice, and
evidence-based practice.
