What We Do
The New England Equity Assistance Center (NEEAC) provides technical assistance and professional development services that focus on educational issues related to race, gender, and national origin. Our work with public schools and school districts, including charter schools and magnet schools, aims to help all students meet high standards, to close persistent achievement gaps, and to support the implementation of equitable, culturally responsive practice.
Key areas of our work include:
English Language Learners:
We work with educators to build knowledge and skills and to develop equitable and appropriate practices in curriculum, instruction, assessment, family engagement, and program development.
School Climate:
We work to foster safe and supportive learning environments by helping schools identify and address problems of harassment, bullying, and hate crimes.
Disproportionate Representation:
We provide schools with technical assistance in ways to identify and address over- and under- representation of subgroups in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) courses, gifted and special education programs, extracurricular activities, and disciplinary practices.
Cultural Competence:
We help schools develop strategies to promote cross-racial understanding and break down persistent racial and ethnic stereotypes in order to prepare students for a 21st Century global society.
